The girls start to show up, in the clips they play, at 2:06!  Most or all of the cast winds up visible in those quick clips, but not tons of their voices... They played more of the promotional clips with full sound before the interview, one commercial break back.  Can't wait to see what the next reviews and interviews bring... seems like everyone really loves it and everyone who hasn't seen it yet is dying to interview Lorenzo Lamas!  And to think nobody but Uatchet spotted him in Starbucks on Sunday morning!  (We had just run into their onstage mother and two of his characters other wives in Target and were heading to North Shore Shopping Center when we stopped for Uatchet's breakfast... Sebek was with us, so he met both of his "new parents" which was very cool for the girls to get to share with him!)

What a glowing review!  It opens with "From the tiniest child to its adult stars, a flawless cast is turning in a royally wonderful performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s hit musical “The King and I” at North Shore Music Theatre." then gushes about the work of the cast and crew, including "The very young children playing the king’s many offspring turn in flawlessly focused and convincing performances. Congratulations to Brandon Barbosa of Revere, Nekhebet Juch and Uatchet Juch of Beverly, Kendall Klipper of Middleton, Elizabeth Pasquale of Salem, Abbey Spinney of Wenham, and Alana Tow and Mikayla Tow of Needham for their professional-level performances."

For an ensemble part they really did do a lot, but as a team and it is thrilling to have them all mentioned and praised when there were so many incredible performances in the show!

From the tiniest child to its adult stars, a flawless cast is turning in a royally wonderful performance of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s hit musical “The King and I” at North Shore Music Theatre. Under the creative hand of director/choreographer Richard Stafford, this lushly beautiful show and its wonderful script draws the audience into an exotic world along with the young English widow who is its heroine.

Too bad the famous composers chose not to start this one with an overture. Almost every song in it would have been a recognizable hit — “Getting to Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “We Kiss in a Shadow,” “Shall we Dance.” The melodies in this memorable score are exquisite.

The performances of Lorenzo Lamas and Kate Fisher are particularly remarkable, with a genuine and believable chemistry as the eastern king and the widow who brings him a puzzling western perspective after he hires her to tutor his many wives and children.

Lamas’ performance is compelling and powerful as the King of Siam — exuding command from a central core. His natural performance, both sensual and humorous, is seemingly effortless, and he is a fine singer.

The beautiful Fisher is a remarkable actress, bringing fire and sensitivity to the role Anna. Her gorgeous and powerful voice sends the wonderful hit songs she sings soaring through the theater.

Manna Nichols is an exquisite Tuptim, the unwilling “gift” to the king who loves another man. Joshua Dela Cruz is passionate as her secret love Lun Tha. They blend their fine voices beautifully in their love songs.

Lisa Yuen gives an exceptional performance as the king’s head wife, Lady Thiang. Her highly expressive face exudes wonder and excitement, and her voice brings great power to the beautiful song “Something Wonderful.”

All the actresses playing the wives of the king are wonderfully expressive and charming.

Young Giacomo Favazza of Gloucester is a surprisingly strong singer in an appealing performance as Anna’s son Louis. Ellis Gage of Methuen is also appealing as Prince Chulalongkorn, who will be the next King of Siam.

Mel Sagrado Maghuyop turns in an intense performance as The Kralahome.

The very young children playing the king’s many offspring turn in flawlessly focused and convincing performances. Congratulations to Brandon Barbosa of Revere, Nekhebet Juch and Uatchet Juch of Beverly, Kendall Klipper of Middleton, Elizabeth Pasquale of Salem, Abbey Spinney of Wenham, and Alana Tow and Mikayla Tow of Needham for their professional-level performances.
The costuming and choreography are sumptuous here. The fascinating angular dance moves provided by Stafford are realized perfectly by a cast of expert dancers, with Rumi Oyama seeming to float on air as Eliza.

This is a wonderful cast, and there wasn’t a weak link in sight during the entire production.

The brand new promo video!  You can catch the girls right at the beginning, then at 2:21 onwards, taking bows in unison, carrying snow in one ballet scene and descending clouds in another, plus the chant and one of their seated dance moments!  So glad for all of the children making it into the promo!  And far too many very talented adult performers and hit songs for everything to make it in... but what a great and quick overview!

Curtain Up is a weekly show on North Shore 104.9FM that focuses on the art community and theatre on the North Shore.  They interviewed Lorenzo Lamas a few days after the adult cast joined the local children in Beverly and before the show had been performed for an audience.  Tune in around 16:50 to hear his take on the children in the show.  He was mistaken in thinking that they came down from New York for the show, but that's a compliment in and of itself along with the praise he gave them!
